Skating since: 2012
What made you get involved in roller derby? One of my closest friends took me to a local game back in 2012. She had been a fan of Maine Roller Derby and the DC Rollergirls, so we went to a Rocktown v DC Capitol Offenders game in Harrisonburg. I happened to overhear the announcement of a freshmeat try out at the game, so I jumped at the chance to join in the fun!
How did you pick your name? That same friend and I were traveling back from a River City v Rocktown game in Richmond a couple months later, and we were both loopy off of derby and little sleep (and hunger), and somewhere along the way appetizers and light bites were brought up, and the riff on light brights, and bits and bytes... it just worked so well that my name became Lite Byte.
Favorite derby memory: Driving back with Doll Nightmare, from a Left Turn clinic hosted by Mercy of Rose City Rollers (OR) and Shenita Stretcher of Philly All-Stars (PA). I was the navigator and Doll was driving. We were on a derby high from playing with and against these team USA players just an hour earlier and were not paying attention to our road signs, nor the GPS system telling us to take the next exit. I finally snapped to and yelled out in my derby voice "800 ft!", and Doll snapped-to and executed a great lateral move with her car to get us on our exit. She also gave a juke to any opposing cars who might be trying to impede our path through the pack... Ahem, I mean our path off the highway.
Derby Mantra: You know what to do. And Jamnesia Jamnesia Jamnesia.
Likes: Loud crowds, clean socks, beer
Dislikes: energy drinks, carb-loading, cold air
Pre bout rituals: Listening to the Royal Blood song Figure it Out. Picturing tight walls, quick footwork, and controlled communication.
Real job: Graduate student of Education Technology, Adjunct Professor at JMU, Curriculum Consultant at Rosetta Stone.
