July 17 – Harrisburg, PA
RTR (96) vs HARD Nuclear Knockouts (212)
WFTDA sanctioned bout
The Rocktown Rollers battled early with the Harrisburg Area Roller Derby (HARD) Nuclear Knockouts, but a small set of power jams were the downfall in a 212-96 loss to the hosts, July 17 in a sanctioned Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) bout.
HARD took the early lead, with Rocktown holding it close and trailing just by three at 25-22 through the first five jams. A 13-point jam by the Nuclear Knockouts in the sixth pushed the lead to 38-22, but RTR battled back with a 12-1 run over the next three jams to trim it to a 39-34 HARD advantage with 15 minutes gone. However, another huge jam, this time a 25-point two-minute segment, increased the difference to 30 at 64-34. The Nuclear Knockouts then followed up with three more jams of at least 10 points and RTR managed just 16 points the rest of the way to go into the halftime break down 115-50.
Rocktown came out and had a 12-pointer in the second jam of the second half to cut the lead to 119-66 and held tight through the next 12 jams to keep the margin steady. However, one final surge of 24 points in the late stages of the bout started a 50-3 run over the final six jams to push it out to the final margin of victory.
Rocktown was held scoreless in 15 of the 39 jams of the bout, while HARD was scoreless in 11 of them. However the difference was on the high-scored jams, as the Nuclear Knockouts scored double-digit jams in eight jams, including two of 24 or more, while the Rollers could only manage one. Bam Bam Brawler led the Rollers with 41 points scored in her jams.
