RTR (195) vs DCRG Capital Offenders (54)
The Rocktown Rollers, the women’s flat track derby team of the Shenandoah Valley, got back to their winning ways with a dominant performance from start to finish in a resounding 195-54 victory over the visiting DC Rollergirls’ Capital Offenders, Aug. 7.
After DCRG scored the only point of the first jam, RTR took the lead with a four-point jam the next time out and was ahead just 6-3 through four jams. However a 14-0 jam by Bam Bam Brawler followed by a 10-pointer by Luv at First Fright quickly built a 30-3 lead for the hosts with just over seven minutes gone in the bout. Capital Offenders cut the lead slightly over the next two jams with a 7-5 advantage to make it 35-10 and the lead grew slightly to 44-15 with just over 15 minutes to go in the first half. Spurred by a 13-point jam on a combined effort by Smashley Wheel’ams and Betty Crasher, RTR took complete control of the bout, holding the visitors scoreless over the final 10 jams while scoring 58 points to lead 102-15 at the intermission.
The second half started with both teams scoring four points in the opening run and the margin grew slightly with a 12-2 run over the next six jams to make it 118-21. RTR then built the lead over the next five jams, including an 18-point jam by Bam Bam and a 17-point run by Smashley, to lead 171-30 with 14 minutes to play. The largest difference was a 194-38 with less than eight minutes to go in the bout, with the visitors continue to battle in the closing stages, finishing on a 16-1 run in the final three jams.
RTR had a distinct advantage in earning the lead jammer role, getting the control 24 times as compared to eight for the visitors. Bam Bam Brawler led RTR for the second-straight bout, totaling 64 points in her 13 jams for a 4.92 scoring average, while Smashley Wheel’ams tallied 43 points and a 4.3 average.
